Bihar Public Service Commission BPSC conducts Combined Competitive Examination CCE annually for recruitment to various Group A and Group B posts in Bihar state government departments. No specific stream or subject restriction. No minimum percentage criteria specified. Even candidates who have just passed graduation without good marks can apply. Final year students appearing in final semester examination can also apply provided they submit proof of passing before interview stage. Professional degrees like LLB BEd Engineering Medical are also considered as graduation. ## Age Limit For General Unreserved candidates age should be between 20 to 37 years as on 01-08-2025. For BC Backward Classes and EBC Extremely Backward Classes candidates belonging to Bihar the upper age limit is extended to 40 years. For SC Scheduled Caste and ST Scheduled Tribe candidates of Bihar the upper age is 42 years. Female candidates of all categories in Bihar get upper age relaxation up to 40 years. Persons with Disability get additional 10 years relaxation. These age relaxations are as per Bihar government reservation policy. ## Three Stage Selection Preliminary Examination is qualifying cum ranking exam with 150 objective questions for 150 marks to be completed in 2 hours. Questions cover Indian History, Geography, Indian Polity and Economy, General Science, Current Affairs, Bihar specific General Knowledge etc. There is no negative marking in BPSC prelims which is a major advantage. Qualifying marks are 40 percent for general category and 32 percent for reserved categories. Number of candidates called for mains is based on vacancies and cutoff marks. Main Examination is descriptive type with two compulsory papers. Paper 1 is General Hindi for 100 marks which is qualifying with 30 percent minimum required. This tests grammar, comprehension, essay, letter writing in Hindi. Paper 2 and Paper 3 together constitute General Studies worth 600 marks. Paper 2 General Studies 1 covers History Art Culture Geography Economy of India and Bihar for 300 marks in 3 hours. Total 700 marks but Hindi marks not counted in ranking. Interview or Personality Test is conducted for 120 marks. A board of senior officers asks questions on general awareness, Bihar issues, current affairs, personality traits, decision making ability etc. Final merit list is prepared on combined marks of Main Examination 600 plus Interview 120 totaling 720 marks. Prelims marks are not added in final merit. Selection is purely based on mains and interview performance. ## Salary and Perks Pay scale varies from Pay Level 6 to Pay Level 11 depending on the post. District level officers like District Welfare Officer get higher pay around Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500. Block level officers and inspectors get Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 approximately. With Dearness Allowance House Rent Allowance and other allowances the in hand salary ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000 per month depending on post and place of posting.
